Naughty Dog’s top-rated action adventure cracks jokes with Double Fine’s roadie rampage, while Fallout 3: GOTY lifts off with Where the Wild Things Are.

Naughty Dog’s first excursion into the universe of Uncharted: Drake’s Fortune is regarded by many to be among the best games released for the PlayStation 3. And any questions about whether Naughty Dog would be able to deliver a worthy follow-up in Uncharted 2: Among Thieves have already been answered in resounding form.

Drake is still packing a punch.

Out this week exclusively on the PS3, Uncharted 2 again sees wisecracking treasure-hunter Nathan Drake, along with a vibrant supporting cast of characters, on the hunt for pay dirt and moving out of the way of bullets. Beyond its third-person shooting gameplay, players will also navigate treacherous platforming while solving ancient puzzles to secure their booty. The game also introduces both competitive and cooperative multiplayer to the series.

Uncharted 2 won’t be the only action adventure with a sense of humor heading to retail this week. Having settled its legal dispute with Activision, Tim Schafer’s Double Fine Studios will release the Jack Black-led Brutal Legend for the Xbox 360 and PS3. Double Fine’s first effort since the critical darling Psychonauts, Brutal Legend follows the travails of metal-enthused roadie Eddie Riggs, who has an axe to grind in a rock-themed, demon-filled alternate dimension.

Bethesda Softworks has Fallout 3: Game of the Year Edition on tap this week for the Xbox 360, PS3, and PC. The package compiles all five previously released Fallout 3 downloadable content packs: Broken Steel, Operation Anchorage, The Pitt, Mothership Zeta, and Point Lookout. The console editions of the game will retail for $59.99, while the PC package can be had for $49.99.

With Maurice Sendak’s superlative children’s story Where the Wild Things Are making its big-screen debut on Friday, Warner Bros. Interactive Entertainment will be kicking things off with a game adaptation on Tuesday. Available for the Xbox 360, PS3, Wii, and DS, the game lets players assume the role of Max and tells a story that accompanies the film though does not mirror it.

Nintendo is having no problems getting Wii MotionPlus add-ons into consumers hands, having sold nearly 3 million units through August. Still, the publisher will be incentivizing the package this week with a Wii Sports Resort bundle that includes two MotionPlus pack-ins for $59.99. Nintendo’s console also has Konami’s Scene It? Twilight dawning this week, along with Sega’s Mario & Sonic at the Olympic Winter Games and Scribblenauts developer 5TH Cell’s Drawn to Life: The Next Chapter coming to the Wii and DS. Nintendo’s Pokemon Mystery Dungeon: Explorers of Sky will also land on the DS this week.

Sony’s PlayStation platform will receive two new SingStar installments this week. PS2 gamers can pick up SingStar Latino, while PS3 owners can croon along with SingStar Motown. Other new releases this week include Agetec’s Way of the Samurai 3 for the Xbox 360 and PS3, as well as THQ’s multiplatform Cars Race-O-Rama.
